Fajr to name Simorgh nominations

The 37th edition of Fajr Film Festival is set to announce which films and stars are in the running to win the Crystal Simorgh awards.

Late on Sunday, the list of the official nominees will be announced. The winners will be named at the closing ceremony on Monday.

Last day of the festival will also play host to press conferences to be held for three movies with the attendance of the flicks' cast and crew.

The trio is Fereydoun Jeyrani’s ‘The Unrest’, ‘Gold Carrier’ directed by Touraj Aslani and ‘Midday Adventures: Trace of Blood’, by Mohammad-Hossein Mahdavian.

Some 22 films are taking part in the festival’s main competition section 'Soda-ye-Simorgh', three works are participating in the Animation section and 10 films in the New Vision section. Seven short films and five documentaries are also competing in the event.

The 37th edition of the FFF kicked off on January 30, 2019, and will run until February 11 in Tehran.

The festival coincides with the ten-day Fajr ceremonies across Iran, marking the 40th anniversary of the 1979 Islamic Revolution.

Since its establishment in 1982, the FFF has played a vital role in the development of Iranian Cinema.

Supervised by Iran’s Ministry of Culture, the festival hosts veteran directors and new filmmakers from Iran every year.
